How Much Are Drug Companies Paying Your Personal Doctor?
According to a fascinating New York Times piece, seven legislatures have passed laws requiring drug companies to disclose how much they've spent on marketing efforts in their individual states. And, an accompanying Journal of the American Medical Association study focuses on two of them: Minnesota and Vermont.
Drug makers in Vermont have kept the details of payouts to health care professionals private, declaring them to be "trade secrets." But Minnesota's disclosures are a matter of public record.
Since 1997, when the Minnesota law was passed, drug companies have paid more than 5,500 health care workers in the state at least $57 million. More than 20% of the state's physicians received money, and over 100 people received more than $100,000 each. Ten doctors and one dentist received more than $500,000 each. Plus, another $40 million was paid to clinics, research centers and other organizations.
Psychiatrists, as a profession, received the most money, followed by...read entire article
Study shows Kidney, Liver Toxicity from Genetically Modified Corn
A variety of genetically modified corn that was approved for human consumption in 2006 caused signs of liver and kidney toxicity as well as hormonal changes in rats, as reported by a study performed by researchers from the Committee for Independent Research and Genetic Engineering at the University of Caen in France.
The corn in question, MON863, is made by the Monsanto Company and is approved for use in the United States. It has had a gene inserted from the bacteria Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt), which causes the plant's cells to produce a pesticide. Doesn't that sound like something you want to have served at your next meal?
• Researchers fed rats either unmodified corn or diets containing modified corn for 90 days. The rats that ate modified corn were found to exhibit signs of liver and kidney toxicity, as well as signs of hormonal changes. But wait there’s more…
Male rats lost an average of 3.3% of their body weight, and their excretion of phosphorus and sodium decreased. Female rats gained an average of 3.7% of their body weight, while their triglyceride levels increased by 24 to 40%.

Turn Back Your Biological Clock with This New Antiaging Secret
You've heard people say it: "Today's 50 is yesterday's 40...60 is now more like 50." Yes, some of that's because life expectancy is rising. But that's not all. It's also because the antiaging revolution of the last 12 years has opened a path to a longer, healthier, more active lifestyle well into people's 80’s. Toenail Fungus? Try Vicks Vaporub
As unlikely as it may sound, Vicks Vaporub is also known for its effectiveness in treating Nail Fungus.
Toenail fungus can be a vexing problem that can last for years with no obvious solution. So, if Vicks Vaporub does work, it would be a boon for many people. Conventional medical anti-fungal treatments can cost thousands of dollars and can result in dangerous side effects.
One way to reduce your risk of fungal infections? Cut down on sugar which helps fungus to grow. Spending some regular time in the ocean or another body of salt water can also help in prevention.
But as unlikely as it may sound, Vicks Vaporub is also known for its effectiveness in treating Nail Fungus.
I have read many testimonies about successful treatment of Nail Fungus using Vicks Vaporub, lauding the product for its effectiveness.
It's what is called a "home remedy" and doesn't bring with it the caution of official medicine.
How to use Vicks Vaporub?
The reported usage is ...read entire article

Food for Thought: The Healthy Brain Diet
What's good for the heart is good for the brain. Keeping the blood flowing through the brain, as well as the heart, keeps us mentally sharp.
Here are Our Recommendations to Improve Your Brain Power and Enhance Memory and Recall
- Consume plenty of antioxidant-rich foods such as broccoli, berries, cherries, prunes, raisins, pure berry juice concentrates and Green Tea. As we age, our cells experience wear and tear from free radicals. This oxidative stress can damage DNA, accelerating the aging process and contributing to age-related diseases, including AD, cataracts and cancer.
- Antioxidants help protect cells from this damage. Our highest antioxidant is Acai Berry, 33 times stronger than vitamin C.
- Eat foods that are high in omega-3 fatty acids. These include cold-water fish such as wild salmon, tuna, herring and mackerel, olive oil, avocados, Flaxseeds and nuts (especially walnuts). You need 1000 mg or more of omega-3 daily. For many, this means supplementing with a high quality Omega-3 Fish Oil.
