Fiber Cuts Heart Risks by 27%
Eating foods rich in dietary fiber, such as fruits and cereals, significantly reduces your risk of dying from heart disease, researchers reported last month.
Pooling the results from 10 U.S. and European studies of more than 330,000 adult men and women, the report said people who consumed 10 grams of fiber per day reduced their risk of heart attack by 14% and cut their risk of dying from coronary heart disease by 27%.
The health benefits were the most marked when the dietary fiber came from cereals and fruit rather than vegetables. This may be because common starchy and heavily processed vegetables, such as corn and peas, are low in nutrients but high in sugars that can lead to diabetes and heart disease.
Fiber is also available as a supplement in several forms including tablets, capsules and powders. For general adult health, 20 to 35 grams per day of dietary fiber is suggested.
"The recommendations to consume a diet that includes an abundance of fiber-rich foods to prevent (coronary heart disease) are based on a wealth of consistent scientific evidence," wrote study author Mark Pereira, formerly of Harvard University in Boston, and now at the University of Minnesota.
Dietary fiber has been found to lower blood pressure, cut blood levels of artery-clogging lipids, improve insulin sensitivity and lower the risk of heart attack by an amazing 27%.

Why Fish Oil is a "Must Take" Daily Supplement
Americans consume a dangerously insufficient amount of Omega-3, a fat essential for good health that is only found in fish oil and a few other foods. Meanwhile, our intake of Omega-6, another fat found in corn, soy, sunflower and other oils, is far too high. The ideal ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 should be 1:1, but get this: the typical American's ratio ranges from 20:1 to 50:1!
This lack of Omega-3 in our diets is a primary reason behind many of the diseases we face, as well as shortening our life span compared to other "first world" countries such as Japan or Greece.

While a helpful form of Omega-3 can be found in flaxseed, walnuts and a few other foods, the most beneficial form of Omega-3 (containing two fatty acids, DHA and EPA, that are essential in fighting and preventing both physical and mental disease) can only be found in fish.
The source of the fish oil you decide to take is a primary concern. Cheap, untested brands from unknown waters can be found at any big box store, but how can you be sure it's clean and free from toxins? Here is one brand that is tested and certified toxin free.

Accutane Harms Your Liver and Increases Your Cholesterol
Accutane, an acne medication known to cause birth defects, can also raise the risk of potential heart and liver problems more than previously thought.
The drug was already known to increase levels of cholesterol, liver enzymes and triglycerides (a kind of blood fat that can raise the risk of heart disease), all of which can lead to serious illness over the long term. But a new study found that the risks of these problems were higher than expected.
Lab tests on more than 13,000 patients showed abnormal results for cholesterol and liver function with much greater frequency than had been predicted. Most patient's lab tests returned to normal when they stopped taking the drug.
In all, 44% of those taking the drug developed high levels of triglycerides, where 25% had been previously predicted. Another 31% developed high cholesterol levels and 11% showed abnormal liver function.
Are You Tired, Sick, Lethargic or Depressed? A Simple Detox May be Your Solution.
The word "detox" often bears with it negative connotations either because it's associated with drug addictions, or because practitioners who treat "detox" are sometimes perceived as "wacky" by those unfamiliar with the practice. But surprise! Detox plays an important role in clearing up issues such as low energy, constipation and digestive problems, weight gain, insomnia, headaches, colds, viral infections and skin outbreaks. Actually, the list is much longer since many common health problems are caused by the accumulation of toxins, poisons and impurities in the foods we eat and the air we breathe.
Our liver, lungs and colon are highly effective organs, but even so, they are often unable to deal with all that we throw at them on a daily basis. When these organs become so over-taxed and stressed, the toxins, poisons and impurities can’t be eliminated fast enough. As they build up, our immune system is compromised, opening the door for sickness, disease and illness.
The best way to get rid of accumulated toxins and poisons is...Read Entire Article
